Babb was named for C. C. Babb, district engineer in charge of the St. Mary's Irrigation Project. In 1912 Babb became the headquarters for the Reclamation Service Project that diverted water from St. Mary’s River, which drains into Hudson Bay, across the Hudson Divide to the Milk River.(from Cheney’s Names on the Face of Montana, Mountain Press Publishing Company)

On the eastern edge of Glacier National Park, Babb is near two of the park’s entrances, the Going-to-the-Sun Road, Duck Lake, and St. Mary Lake. The town is located along St. Mary River and this is a beautiful area for beginning your Glacier getaway. There are numerous outdoor activities and scenic views just minutes away from this small town.
